I never had a problem with silica sand. I dont even know what type of sand this is.

I use old RO water from our 3-4 year old planted tank. And top off with water from my 55. So i never used stress coat ect.

Only thing i added first was a bambo shrimp 5days after the tank was set up. He looked fine, then started getting sick. I could poke him and he wouldnt move, so i put him in my QT tank and he did fine. Put him back a week later he died.

Snails pretty much have no chance at all. RIght when i drop the snails in, they die right away.

I think the sands not a problem. I used the same bag of sand in a 75, with no problems.

I will be putting a couple more shrimp in this take in about two weeks to see how things goes.

It would be easy i guess.

Since its a ladder style diffuser. CO2 get spumped down into it, and the bubbles float up. No where to collect the co2 mix/liquid so it leaks into your water.

Not hanging the CO2 bottle on your tank, and just let it sit ground level in your stand or somthing also helps reduce the leakage.

But i have no room, so all mines hang on the back of the tank, thanks to some zip ties and a aquaclear powerhead hanger.

Thats what i personaly use, a smaller size, and a XL for my 55 thats about 4-5 inches.

You haven't posted your water parameters yet. I wouldn't add any more fish until you actually cycle the tank. If you want to see if it's cycled, get a bottle of generic 100% ammonia and add a little bit at a time until you get a reading of about 3ppm. If the tank is cycled, a level that high should be converted into nitrite and then nitrate within about 2 days give or take. If it isn't cycled the level will drop very slowly as some ammonia will evaporate and you won't really see a spike in nitrite for about 4 or 5 days. If that's the case then just continue on with the fishless cycling method until it's complete. There's really no sense in sending more inhabitants to their doom until you figure out what's killing them.
 
With only 1 reaction co2 bottle on the tank, overdosing co2 is not very likely. Most species can handle 60-80 ppm co2, and higher.
 
They were dead before i even added the moss wall.

I just added it now but havent added any fish yet.
