My new 125 Gallon tank!! Ideas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
For color I'd look at gold/red sevs - yes they're cichlids but for the most part and compared to other ciclids they're not all that aggressive.

For Eels look at either the peacock eel or the zig zag eel.

Clown loaches are very popular and do well with a mix of other type fish, they're slow growers and provide the comic relief of the tank.

Have you checked out a Black Ghost Knife yet? They're pretty cool, wish I had one.

And as others have mentioned bichirs are another fan favorite.

Yes, I like the Ghost Knife, I just don't want to get one until I know what all will be in the tank.. Adding as I go seemed like a bad idea.. I don't want to mix peaceful with aggressive... If it is compatable with everything else I will definatly have one..

Have any of you owned a shovelnose tiger catfish? There is one for sale near me, and we both love it. The problem is I am finding contradicting information on it.. Some sites say it will only get two foot, some say three.. the person selling it says it will be big enough to eat a person... Some sites say it would be fine in my tank, the seller says it need a 200 gallon tank right now. It is 18" and 2lbs..

My suggestion is to come up with a list of fish you want, pick out 1-2 fish that you and your BF really really want, then ask for help to build around those 1-2 fish.

ok, thank you. As for the Shovelnose, I finally found the fish they have. He is not a shovelnose, he is an amazon... Very cool looking but he will be HUGE.

+1 with all the bichir comments. CL's are ok to i guess.

What about doing a bichir and rope fish tank? those fish are really cool! I have one started so far i have an Ornate, an endlicheri, and a rope fish in it. They have all different kinds each one as beautiful as the next!

If you like colorful and semi aggressive/peaceful look into maybe making a tank of all MALE larger cichlids. Yes, you can't do many in a 125, but you get the best of both worlds, and you can add bichirs as well.

And if that's the road you go- get them small and grow them up together.

I have a Jag, Midas, Flowerhorn, and 2 Red Terrors together in a 180 with bichirs. They are all best buddies.
