Hey everybody. I'm picking up my 125 today at a great price. I'm getting a flawless 2 year old tank, a black cabinet stand, a fluval Fx5, 2 powerheads, glass tops, and 2 coralife lights. All for $175. Quite a deal, at least too me.

I've been hard at work for a week now however, building my 29 gallon wet/dry, ordering some things, and making room for this tank.

I've been wanting to make a thread like this for a while, so I'm gonna post pics of the process, start to finish.

1st - here is my old 55. 5 monos, a silver aro, and a niger cat i just picked up. Nice tank, but it doesn't grow like my fish do.:D

Kind of a bad pic... Ok the tank sucks. Blue silicon from rid ich a while ago, cardboard and electrical tape tops, and a 2 foot reptile hood with a florescent light. Its usually not so dirty either.

2nd - Heres one of my bass up close. Got them at 2 inches, now 5 to 6.

3rd - This was my plan for my W/D

4th - Filter socks i bought. Gonna try a 200 inside a 100 inside a 50. Dont know how that will work out, but worth a try.

5th - Almost finished W/D

6th - Done. The leftover frame is to hold a lid to help with evaporation.

7th - Alternate View

8th - 1/8th inch holes on drip plate. 99 of them. May need to be modified a little.

9th - And last for now. The bottom will be painted with a textured spray paint to resemble sand. Rustoleum American Accents Sierra Stone to be exact. Here is a sample. A little blurry but i tested on a scrap piece of acrylic to see it, and it looks great.

Pics of painting coming tomorrow night. This thing should be up and running by Monday.

Sorry about the format. I couldn't figure out how to post a pic and then have a description under each individual one. :screwy:

Wow you did get a good deal! Its hard to find tanks over 75 around here and the only place with 125s its $750 for the light, glass lids, and stand.

Thanks guys. Bit of an issue however. I went to pick the tank up today, and although it looked great, whoever last painted the stand used a paint that REALLY stuck to the tank frame. After a bit of messing around, I tried to lift it up.Then there was a pop, and some of the remaining water began to come out one of the corner seems. I initially thought i had a crack, but I dont. The silicon seemed ok, but something isnt right. I just stripped the silicon off that corner and am looking for the problem. My fear is that i damaged the seam between the 2 glass pieces in the corner. I'm gonna throw on some new silicon, and hope to god that it was just a sealing issue inside the tank.

This is depressing. :(

Probably just the seal.

I really hope your right.

Anyone else worry about resealing bigger tanks? Ive done many smaller ones, but can I really trust that this tank wont just pop at the same seem again 4 months from now even with a perfect silicon job? I also remember reading on an aquarium silicon (I use GE type I) that it was only safe for like 30 gallons of water? Why is that?

i had a 180 lose half of its water. After searching the yellow pages and not finding one person who would attempt to reseal it, I found a guy on Craigslist. Well that was as much as the joke as i got for a complete 180 gallon setup for $300. So after buying a new tank, filtration system and lights, the only one thing i'm using is the stand.. and its ugly !! Best wishes on getting it sealed properly. id love to know if ya can reseal it. its so tough on a bigger tank.. I filling and drained mine 20 times and after a week no success. good luck

I re-sealed my 125 with the GE1 silicone. My 125 did not leak, however, the tank is from 1985, and I do believe it was the original silicone on it, so I didn't even bother taking a chance.

It's really not too hard.. Good Luck!
