My new 440 gallon ray tank is almost done!!!

Personally I find Metal Halide the best. It's bright and gives that shimmering sunlight effect in the water. I don't know how rays are with bright light, but I've used them for 10 years for freashwater planted and unplanted. The only thing I'd consider other than Metal Halide is LED but they need to come down in price first. I just bought 3 pendants for the 220 I'm setting up.
 
IF you like the shimmering light effect you could get small moonlite LED unit's that Current makes. You can link 3 together. The'yre not designed to be the sole source for lighting (compared to Flo, MH) so they wouldn't be too bright for the rays. They come in white, blue or a mix of both. You can find them for around $40-60

Either way more pics of the tank. What are you doing with the stand to cover the filters. Like a plywood frame so you don't see the metal ? or are you just going to leave it go. ?
 
One white LED centrally located would give substantial lighting without overdo-ing it.
Having a blue -or- red for the night would be very, very nice.

HFG, do you plan to drain the FX5's before removal from underneath, or after?

I drain my FX5's after I pull them out from under my 300gal. Its a CHORE getting them out from under there too. I strongly advise you to work up some system to allow you to drain them under there first THEN remove them! Even put them on a sliding drawer for easier maintence. Save you a lot of hassle in the long run! :D
