Just stay away from bloodworms, do alotta water changes and try and keep them in a stress free environment and they'll make it to adulthood. It's when you slack on maintenance 1 time is when they take a turn for the worse. Lots o luck with them!

why stay away from bloodworms?? theyre one of the best foods, no?

Blue Dempseys are prone to parasitic illness… and there are rumors that bloodworms can contain parasites… Although no high grade food, bloodworms or otherwise, should contain parasites…

Erik may have other reasons to discourage bloodworms and I’m interested to hear them if he does… I’ve personally fed young Blue Dempseys quite a bit of Hikari brand bloodworms with no ill results… I should also note I used UV sterilizers on the tanks I did this in…

i dont know ive heard they are bad ..... i havent used uv at all.. just a filter and heater.. i do 30% wc every week, they are in a 30g. i have only fed them new life spectrum mini pellets, it was like 7 bucks for a little container, i havent fed them anything else, i feed them like 3 or 4 times a day they love those pellets and have stayed healthy, i hope they stay that way
they have double their size in like 5 weeks..
:)
