Someone told me he could help me anesthetize the fish and examine its urogenital papilla

This is what we do at the lab. Going by just the facial features is too unreliable for them.

Ouch!! How do you sedate and how do you examine them..and where exactly??

You sedate them with clove oil - careful, it's also used to euthanize fish .

Unfortunately, my friend is a fish expert, but not a knife fish expert. I will keep investigating.
