just put in a pot for him. bit shorter than his length, but it works ok. he still prefers a corner between a wall and a rock and he cant even fit half his body in. he has warmed up a bit but he hides if im standing over the tank. when im laying down or sitting he is ok. he has eaten floating sticks, sinking pellets, and an earthworm. no shrimp though, guess he doesnt like them. overall still doing well, and actually responded really well to the first water change which i have found most fish dont.

Ok. Tank now: 
I put in a tile bottom, it looks nice IMO. Heater is in left corner not visible in pic, but in a pvc pipe with lots of holes drilled in and it keeps the water at about 79-80° which is a bit warm but not horrible.
Also trying to mount the powerhead in a way that isnt so noisy. Suction cup fell apart so it now rattles around a lot and sounds like a motorcycle.
Also he lives with a convict fry, which somehow he hasnt killed. Ut is currently hiding under the wood thing to the right.
RD is mean lol. Still pretty scared of me when im standing but if i just chill in a chair or on my bed he will glassbang. Not eating great, but takes a few sticks or pellets.
As i typed this he rammed into the glass as well as took the floating log and smashed that into the glass while moving it out of his way. He likes to take the cluster of plants in the middle and move them around too... He is crazy but it isnt directed at me yet.
So yeah. Update...
Question- the only surface movement i have is a canister filter right now (HOB stopped working a few weeks back, trying to tinker with it in free time... All my equipment sucks lol. Working in summer to improve everything). Should i bother with the powerhead (1600 gph) or should the RD be ok with just the filter? Also i can add in bubbles from airstone but he will just drag it around or puncture the hose im sure
