Home aquarium they get the same size, unless you stunt them. I have heard of 10 foot paroon's in the wild, and 8 foot in captivity.

what is stunting them what sort of size tank you lookin at ???

Stunting is when a fish's body stops growing because it's environment is too small. Even though the body stops growing, the internal organs continue to grow and the fish dies far before its time. I would say a 15 foot diameter pond or a 15 X 15 pond at adulthood. I know this sounds huge, but it isnt for an 8 foot fish. You should be able to get by with a smaller tank-think 500 gallons-for a few years atleast.

Edit: possibly a little larger because of how skittish paroons can be.

I would not quote Planet catfish on much they are not always right!!!:screwy: As far as size they do get big in the wild as for the aquarium that is a whole different matter as far as how big they get the biggest one i have seen is 36 inchs I have seen this cat in a friends indoorpond but it was not a young catfish!!!!! I have one knoe they are alot like redtails start off fast and slow down with age!! If anyone has a picture of a paroon in captivity please post it!!!!!!

Paroon Sharks can definitely grow larger than 18" If you provide it with good quality food, great water quality, and plenty of space, it can become quite a beast.

There is a 5 foot paroon in the Dallas World Aquarium. Other internet sources say up to 8 feet....

This is also a trust worthy site--http://www.seriouslyfish.com/profile.php?id=635

although I have never seen one over 3 feet, my asian friends said they see some 4-5 footers in the fish market

Not sure where, but couple of fair sized ones :)
