Pulls the same crap with the lights out. Just makes it harder for me to clean so it doesn't go foul and rot overnight.

it might be the only way. TbH, the 5 minute rule to total BS with my bichirs. They observe it after 5 minutes I put fillets inside the tank and then starts to eat after half an hour or so when the lights are all out and when i'm at upstairs getting ready to sleep. lol
 
He appraches food almost instantly. Ill pre soak some chopped up pellets and literaly put it infront of his face, he doesn't get spooked at all. Chews it, eats maybe half, spits it out. I don't understand what he wants. Iv given him almost everything aside from worms which I refuse to buy for 1 picky fish lol

I don't think bichirs like presoaked pellets. It might appear unappetizing. just chop and put the pellets inside. Or you can starve it for a few days and then feed it.
 
I didn't bother to try today, figured id give him a day or two then try again.
