My new favorite fish (Load Warning)

Are there any other ways that you can tell the difference between male and female. Is it possible that the orange can fade. if they are both males they are ***. lol. They have dug a pit and are chasing all the other fish away.
 
It is possible that the orange will fade out, my female loses almost all her orange after laying eggs so there is the chance she laid before you bought her and is just not ready yet, it can also be stress that makes them fade out my female will lose all her orange and go very dark when stressed and my male will do the opposite and bleach out to almost white when stressed.
You can try and go by the dorsal and anal fins, they are normally longer and more flowing on a male then the female.

Also on a different note you may want to take the flower pots out and replace them with ones that still have bottoms, Convicts are not the brightest bunch sometimes and once they put on some size they can get stuck in the pot. I just had to break two pots last night as my male got stuck in one chasing the female and then after I got him free from that pot he ran to hide from me and got stuck in another pot before I could remove it.
 
Ya now I am definite i have a male and a female. They just had eggs this morning. There doing a good job of guarding them. It is really cool. It's my first egg-layer that I have bred.

convicts are beautiful..maybe they need a name change or something.. because they are just beautiful cichlids.
