He stopped... was twitching his head...like he had problems breathing... actually, you know what happened Chris?

When i plugged my filter back in....some waste that was still deep in the filter spat back out...even though I CRAZILY washed the sponge (did not TOUCH bio balls)... removd 1 month old carbon (not making this mistake again)...

so yeah some waste got spat back into the aquarium... but its all settled down now..hes swimming fine... you reckon that waste will be a problem?

Chris, you should make a sticky on how to breed FH's. I noticed that the topic with breeding FH's has been popping up quite a bit and I can't bring myself to explain everything in one post lol.

This is the twitching I was talking about before

Ahhhh great...came home..and saw ...shes already dug a nest... even my male...has literally dug the crap out of his side..and made mountains out of the gravel...the female is probably gonna lay soon...

I will not let the male fertilize...i feel so sad...I have never bred fish..its uch a beautiful site watching her dig..and he digging on his side.... is this a good sign that they like each other?

Only way to know if they like each other is to remove the divider lol. If they make babies, well that pretty much answers your question. Keep in mind that male FH's will still be able to fertilize the eggs if she lays them close enough to the divider. If you don't want them to breed, you should move one of them out. Also, the fact that the male hasn't tried to kill her through the divider is a good sign.

shes laid...not even 24hours i had her lol... she laid a few inches away from divider... however...he does not seem like hes close enough to fertilize.

he has not acted aggressive towards her at all...instead he was digging on his side...just like she was doing...at the same time...lol he probably wanted to help.

even if a few eggs get fertilized...does it effect my males health? first time breeding...lol i just heard fry quality wont be good when male is young... and wont effect his health?

hmm was so awesome...my first time watching this teamwork....and eggs hehe
...cant wait when i put them together after a few more months!!
XDXD :-):-)

Very nice lol. Take pride that a newly acquired female FH bred in less than 24 hours in your tank. Means everything was perfect lol.

As to if your male did fertilize the eggs, once won't hurt him. Just try not to keep him with the female for too long if you don't intend to breed them.

About a young male giving way to low quality offspring, that is false. You probably read that somewhere off FH forums filled with Asian breeders. My father told me the same thing when I was breeding horns. That I should destroy all the eggs of the first batch. It's all bull. IMO, it's a waste of time and energy to get your fish to breeding condition only to destroy their eggs.

Good luck with your future breeding project.
