So now i just have to figure out what to fill it with. I have asked this question more then once but never get a clear answer .. people just spout out there favorite brand of media and thats all. What i would like to know is tray 1, tray 2, and tray 3, what is best in each .. and how much i will need to adequately fill the space. The final plan should be that both of them end up on a 300 gal tank but until i can build the tank i will be using it for the filtration on a 150 gal tank. (and maybe the other on another 150 gal i should be buying today) All information is welcome and if you would like to chime in on how i should run 2 on the 300 gal tank that would be great as well. (300 stock list would be a stingray 2 or 3 peacock bass and 1 arowana) thanks in advance

I have biomax in the bottom 2 (each tray holds 2 of the small boxes) and 200 mL of purigen in the top tray. Not quite sure for the 300 gallon if you are talking about using different filtration in each or the actual hook up or what. I currently have one FX5 that I have a split inlet and outlet to use dual overflows in a 120. The flow is a tiny uneven from different tubing lengths, but not bad. Good luck getting the other, I read your ebay troubles earlier!

I don't know dude, is there any pictures or anything on the box sorry Im a Eheim guy.

As far as setting them up, I like to keep my filter inlet and outlet on the same side of the tank, it creates a nice surface and water turn around in the tank. It works for me, but maybe you fx guys have a better set up that works for you.

In mine i have the bottom 2 trays full of BioMax and the top tray i have half filled with Biomax and leave room for some carbon or anything else i want to swap in.

finally someone who just says what they put in the trays lol .. and i am going to run 2 Fx5 on the 300 maybe one pure media and the other more for cleaning and filtration .. but who knows ... thats why i asked ..

as far as the set up for the 150 it will be just the Fx5 so i want something that is going to be best for keeping the water clean.

and yea ebay is kicking my butt .. i am not happy with this seller ..

with the carbon and anything else .. what conditions would make you use carbon or anything else .. and what would that anything else be?

I use carbon because i have alot of driftwood so its keeps away the tannins and helps keep the water clear. I personally dont always run it but always have some around. Im sure plenty of people just run bio media in all 3 trays

alright i have a xp3 on my 150 right now .. and it has the foam on the bottom and the other 2 have the media .. and it seems to do fine .. i clean all the "garbage" when i vac.. and the filter gets a little to help between cleanings .. but really it does not take much out of the tank
