So I took some better pictures of my guy so now everyone can actually tell what he is. I love how broad his snout is and he has a really nice colouration, anyway here it is. the fish is around 16" maybe more

Let me know what you guys think, He doesn't look much like my old Florida Gar that I had years ago but I am no expert on Gar Species

Yes, it is a Florida Gar. The pattern is very different from what I normally see on Florida Gars that size, maybe it's Wild Caught? It almost looks like a juvenile Alligator Gar with a narrower snout and a slightly slimmer body sgape. Very good looking fish, though.

like like like!

I have a couple floridas with this pattern. Very likely to be wild caught. If I remember correctly he said in another thread that he got it from a big al's which often stock larger wild caught floridas. A couple of the stores in the GTA received a shipment from a florida supplier a couple weeks back that almost always has these on their list.

tropical?

Not a tropical. Just a florida.

I will remove the pleco if problems occur but this plec has never sucked on anything. I keep bichirs in there too and everyone gets on great. I do know though that once the pleco's develop a taste of slime coat that I will have to remove him. my desk is literally next to the tank so if I do see any rowdyness from the pleco he will be removed.

Gar seems to have a nice light brown hue to the front and top of his body. I used to have a florida years ago and the difference in face structure on this gar is amazing. this guy has a much wider more musculer snout. my other florida had a much thinner snout.

I don't mean to sound stupid but, if it is wild caught, could it not be possible that it is a naturally occuring hybrid of some kind? if anyone would like me to take a picture of a particular part of the fish from a particular angle or whatever just let me know and I will take one now.

Tigercat, I have tried to feed him some silversides but he seems to be uninterested. I will try him with prawn tomorrow and keep persisting with the silversides. I will also pick up some smallish good quality goldy feeders for him on thursday just incase he refuses to go to dead food.

I wouldn't be suprised if it was a hybrid, looking at him now he doesn't exactly look like any one image and his pattern seems to be very mismatched and not uniform.
I also can see a faded trident shape on top of his head. My old florida had a uniform pattern and was mostly symmetrical etc. this gar seems to be totally randomly marked

Keep posting pictures. There's some really good gar folks on here and they will chime in eventually. I have some Florida's and a T gar and mine doesn't look like yours???? Maybe a hybrid? or spotted?
