My New Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I guess because of the temperature in my home is rather high, the gars eat and produces lots (really lots) of waste. I was thinking to have an undergravel filter setup for a planted aquarium and put the gars there. I suppose their waste would be a good fertilizer :)

most likly florida gar. and mine has not done well with plants. looks good but when he goes for the food he rippes up the plants

Its a spotted gar guys

It is a Platyrhincus not an Oculatus

Plants are fine in fact I keep mine in pretty darn plant choked tanks. Still allow some open space but they do not complain about to many plants when young and small. When larger and bigger reduce it a bit but they still will be quite happy in lots of plants and structure.

agreed on all comments. the fish pictured is a Florida, not a spotted gar. it's only a spotted gar in the sense that it is a gar with spots...in which case 6/7 species of the family are spotted gars :) --
