Also I thought i'd let you know. Even though dats are found in brackish water, most you will find are freshwater, and therefore will survive with your geophagus.

good to hear. i will look for some Dats. as for the sand i already have a 5 gallon pail ready to add in to the tank. the substrate that i have now is small enough for the geos to sift thru.

These guys max out at 8" including trailers.
 
Get the Texas cichlids out of there. They are way too agressive to keep with red heads. Also red heads are hard to find and very cool cichlids.

yes i know the texas have to go. the only reason that they are in there is that they were getting their buts kicked by another texas. here is a quick vid
