If you don't have this already then I would suggest it just from my personal experience.

If you decide to get some, I would suggest the "mini" size instead of the "medium".

The second link is a floating pellet but they WILL eat it. I don't feed those two exclusively, I just feed them randomly throughout the week with all the other fish foods I have.

i will have to try out those foods. i also feed mine earthworms. Canadian Night Crawlers. i will take a pic and post it. the worms are from this summers fishing trips i took i ended up with 2 containers full and actually forgot about them in the fridge. they were in there for 5 month and they are still alive!!!! they LOVE the worms!!!!! here is the pic with a caulking Gun as reference

My biggest male is just over 8" I just measured him.
When do they quit growing?

RIGHT NOW! J/K I have NEVER seen one over 8" and NEVER heard of them being over 8".


I wish they would grow to 12" like some of the Altifrons!!!

Is yours WC or CB?

Im not sure but my other group is half the size but twice as old. The big group is less than 1.5 years old and I fed them nothing but New Life Spectrom. They have spawned twice but still young.

That is very big for the species, especially to only be 1.5yrs old! I have never heard of that size for orange heads.

i have never seen a night crawler that big my fish are so in envy right now

Mine are 2 years old, the males are 7" TL (accurate, out of water measurement) with 1.5" caudal trailers. As far as I can tell they are no longer growing, except for pelvic fins are still elongating.

Did you measure them out of the water?
