What's funny?

This is a post from the Armatus id guide.

And here are some pictures of the tails of the two species including one of vamptrev's. This is how I knew the ones at my lfs are armatus over tatauaia.

Notice the H. tatauaia don't have the extension out of the center of the caudal fin.

It was funny because the King of Payara forgot a way to I.D a Payara...

Well it probably isn't a 100% way to ID but I believe it worked for me. I'm going to pick up those two H. armatus on thursday and my H. tatauaia will be here tomorrow from tfd. Now when I have both species side by side maybe I can see the difference in their jaw structure better than looking at pictures online and holotypes in documents. What I did notice at the lfs though is the H. armatus had a really beautiful metallic glow which is lacking in the H. scomberoides that I have seen in person. I have yet to see H. tatauaia in person... well until tomorrow that is.

awesome. i really need to get another one

the line is deff not a key point. my tat has the line, the tat in the pic above has it and a juvi armatus dosnt have the line.

here is a juvi armatus tail

I understand that in smaller sizes they don't have it but I believe I read somewhere that they begin to develop it at 4-5" or 12cm. From the pictures I've seen I haven't seen any tatauaia with the extension but I could be completely off base as I have never kept these fish.... until tomorrow :)
I really have enjoying your threads about fang (R.I.P.) and I thank you for sharing your experience and expertise on keeping them in aquaria.
