My new Hoplias Lacerdae (wolf fish)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think this is H.Lacerdae as we've come to know them. But, the genus as a whole is a mess with ID so who knows what it is...

I'm thinking its H.Intermedius. But, whatever the case, he has a home up north when you're ready! Figure I can try him out before I get an Aimara.

You gotta get it of the tank. If it's mouth/jaw is flared out then cant really say what it is in the tank. This happened with another fish recently and ended up being a mala. Would reserve giving an ID unless you can get a better shot.

Do I have to close the mouth near the side gills when I hold it upside down?

No.

I would rather look at it outsid to see if there are 4 pores. I would say it looks mala just on the photos. They are definitely close up. I will post Lacardae for comparison and you can see why I say that. I will post mala as well. To compare to as well.

I will say if u get a close up of the pores and its 4 of them, it's confirmed mala. Look at the 2nd pic. You can count 4 pores.

Yes. Final conclusion is to take a detailed pic of the fish out of the tank.
