My new Hoplias Lacerdae (wolf fish)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is a picture right before the Royal killed it.... I told George from Shark Aquarium and his jaw dropped. He never heard of something like that happening. I removed the Royal and put him in another tank.

I went back to Shark today and picked up this beauty.... Hoplias Curupira (black wolf) from Columbia but with a twist!!! It has gold tint in him. I read that some black wolf fish hold color due to environmental reasons or it could be a sub species. I saw it called Hoplias Curupira "Choco, Columbia" online.

This wolf will be staying ALONE in the tank now...

The "choco Columbia" were initially used to describe microlepis species that had this gold color to them. It reminded me of a water cow but gold and dark on the side.I see the name is now being used on the curus too. Either way nice replacement. Too bad the lac went them way it did.

Sorry for the loss, I'd like to add this fish wasn't a lac though.. kno4te kno4te used the wrong pic, the pic he used was of an australis. Still I think your fish was mala, it's shape was much different from any australis I've seen, it looked like a mala to me from the beginning to the end. image.jpeg this was the lac picture fugupuff shared, the first one you posted was mala and the second was australis.

Moe214, I will kindly disagree with you. I posted a lac,1st, and mala as the second pic.

Look at the pics and coompare the one u posted and the one I posted. The one I posted has a v shape and urs has more of a u shape.

In tank it does look mala but that's because of the mouth and folds moving. Not the best way to ID he fish.

The fish that died was Lacardae.

The shape for these will vary lots. But still got to stick with shape. Look at the pic of a Australis from primo aquatics website. The folds are u shaped meaning they run parallel to each other.

The photos posted by you and I are from the collector and not the importer. In the old threads he even states what is lac and Australis. V folds that don't touch are lac. Parallel u folds are Australis.

Once again I kindly disagree with you on this but agree it's a sad loss for an awesome wolf!
