My new monster clown loaches...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I tried broccoli once... that was a huge mistake. Little bits went EVERYWHERE. I give them cucumber almost daily and they really seem to like it for whatever reason. I'll take a video of it sometime. The clicking is overwhelming lol

Lol. I will stay away from broccoli! I tired romaine once and had the same experience, with pieces of romaine everywhere!:irked: Try some zucchini. They love it and it is much more nutritious than cucumber. Oh and incase you haven't heard it enough already... NICE CLOWNS!

No one in my house really eats zucchini. Perhaps I'll buy it, cut it into bits and then freeze it....and thanks :)

Psylant _ kinda coincident I got my large loach at the same time you did. Is yours exhibiting the behavior of the other loaches yet?

The largest is the most shy, by far. It spends 90%+ of its time hiding... and if it sees anyone move it scurries to the back of the tank behind the wood on either end of my tank. I think it takes them longer in time to adjust to their new environment the larger they are when they're moved. Sometimes before I turn the lights out it participates in some loach dancing. All the others join in once the big one starts.

Awesome shoal. I really like your 2 jet black newbies. All of the larger clowns I see locally have washed out colors. Love your tank! Could you tell me the names of the centrals you have in there?

Thanks for the kind words. The jet black ones have faded a bit depending on their moods... but that's normal I think. The user "RD." made a thread that describes the difference between the collection points of loaches (different collection points have different colorations slightly). It's pretty informative, you should check it out.

The Centrals in my tank are all still juveniles but they are Vieja Regani (2), V.Argentea, V.Synspilum, V.Bifasciatus, Green Terror, and Carpintis Escondido. There are also some Australian Rainbowfish and Iranian Red Rainbowfish as well.

Thanks for pointing me to the Kalimantan vs Sumatra thread. I missed it for some reason.

Interesting collection of Centrals. I'm going to have to look into those more. I like the mix. Has everyone been together since they were small?

Well, most of the Centrals ARE still small. The females get a minimum of about 9", and male up to 16" depending on the species, and the largest currently is only about 7-7.5". I added the Escondido a little over a month ago and it has fit right in. Most of them have been together since they were under 4" though. I had to remove a Salvini and a Buttikoferi (African) due to hyper aggression. Currently they are still tolerating each other, but the Argentea is a fin shredder that I'm currently looking to re-home. When they're bigger I will almost definitely have to narrow it down to 1-3 Centrals if I want them to survive. The tank is pretty heavily stocked, and they're quite aggressive fish.
