Just got a 4" Motoro yesterday. The perfect Ray for me (since I'm a beginner).

After acclimating him for 5 hrs I know that I need to do a water change, So is there a time limit that I have to wait?

Also, hes eating market shrimp already, but is it best to keep him on earthworms (I've read a few threads here on MFK that say to give pups worms)? I don't know if its early to stop the worms or not??
Also if you can I.D the Ray (was told there are 2 or 3 diff motoros)
Thanks

looks like a regular motoro, if he is eating shrimp, that is great but a variety is better. Shrimp, worms, mussles, cut fish.

So its just a Motoro?? you Think it is from peru or columbia????

Okay, market shrimp, earthworms, mussles and silversides a good diet??

I'd say a peru motoro... nice one.. red wigglers and nightcrawlers are great to fatten it up then go to krill/shrimps to silver sides etc...

Good looking little ray.

Why did you acclimate him for 5 hours?! Would the water get cold over that period of time?

Either way the ray looks fat and healthy so congrats! Im itching to get a ray or two my self as I miss my old ones!!

nice pick up; definately the best starter ray IMO.... hard as nails...

I acclimated him for that time because I thought it would be good (I heard rays are sensitive, I don't know... Starter I guess :))since the Ph was 6.4 and my tank is 8.2. Also I thought Id do the drip method at a slow rate for 30min then speed the drips up. After 1.5hrs I had the water with a nice flow. I picked him up around 4:00pm and new since he was new to the tank it would be a good idea to release him in the tank when it is night plus I waited to get the water he was in completely at my Ph. As far as the water getting cold, I went to the store and got a heat pack. I have a 15gl Igloo (is only used for H2o changes for my daughters tank) that I wiped down with a sponge that is only used for the tanks (never used for nothing else) and put that inside a big bucket (from target about 40gl) and added the heat packs around the Igloo and covered the Igloo so there was some air and light. Maybe I went over board, but I'm pretty passionate in taking care of all my fishes and just over thought the situation a lil bit:ROFL:
Any whoo, He looked good when I put him in the tank! Nice and happy:)
