My new pick ups Red Texas and JD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im no authority on iding red texas. Ive have good luck with ones that look like that fading and become low grade red texas. But even if it is a kamfa it will be a nice one with all those pearls. But watch for aggression. Again might or might not be red texas but i wasnt going to say nice jamfa as it looks more red texas to me.

If you go to the Flowerhorn section you'll see plenty of posts about Petsmart's "red texas". People are calling them PK's, Petsmart kamfas.

And if you read the entire thread you would see where not everyone is a pk. Not an expert, just going by info given. Again will see but ultimately does not matter as I'm not doing breeding.

That would be interesting if those two bred in the future for you. The RT looks male and the JD looks female.

Like they won't cause enough trouble without that.

Thats not a red texas. He's a kamfa flowerhorn.

ah don't listen to this- he does not know what he is talking about. I assure you it's not a Kamfa! It is a Red Tex but like most of them while showing a bit of red underlay it still may or may not ever turn and or fade for you. The percentage that actually do are very low, and if they do the percentage of the one who do, that actually turn out a nice coloration (not a yellow or crap orange) are even lower! To put it into perspective for you. A few year back a friend and I imported 300 from a very reputable high quality Thai breeder. We grew them all out in 3 240 gallon tanks until they were around 4-5 inch in size before beginning to sell them off. Of the batch maybe 7 turned and of them only 2 were anything worth thinking about keeping.
I wish you luck with it but if you don't get what your hoping for in the long run. A word to the wise learned the hard way-You want a nice one, pay the money and get one which has already faded. They are awesome fish and the one's which turn are for some reason super aggressive so you will get your money's worth in the long run.

Thanks. Will wait and see what I get. Was in the store and they had them for five bucks so I had a friend grab the best one there. Guilty of impulse buy my bad. Not needing to have the best one, just wanted something different. All suggestions and recommendations accepted.
