My new pick ups Red Texas and JD

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's a kamfa not a red texas, a true red Texas will look like a red carpintis and there is no carpintis in this at all

That ties the score now between Rt and FH. Will be interesting to see what it grows into.

I want to see a picture of a true Red Texas as 5 inches grown out now or greater that they bought from Petsmart awhile back. I still have only seen pictures of FH and hybrids. I got a true Red Texas but not from Petsmart.

Did you know, what 'Red Texas' is is actually subjective?

Some people consider there to be 'low quality' Red Texas aka those that don't fade/don't quite have the pearlings in abundance etc. etc., whilst others consider 'Red Texas' as a specific trait, aka they have to be a hybrid (or descendant thereof) pf a Texas (Herichthys cyanoguttatum), Green Texas (Herichthys carpintis) or a hybrid of both (H. cyanoguttatum x H. carpintis) crossbred with different species of cichlid; which has a red body, pearlings and the Texas/Green Texas shape? There are other definitions put forth by others as well, such as those that limit the 'any different species' to just faders, or those that regard PKs as low quality Red Texas.

I personally follow the latter school of thought in the above example, eg 'hybrid (or descendant thereof) pf a Texas (Herichthys cyanoguttatum), Green Texas (Herichthys carpintis) or a hybrid of both (H. cyanoguttatum x H. carpintis) crossbred with different species of cichlid; which has a red body, pearlings and the Texas/Green Texas shape' because that's really the only reason why you would want to call it a Red Texas, imo. Otherwise it's no 'better' than any random cross, and should be referred to as such, imo. Because of that, it is a trait, rather than a strain or collective strains of fish, imo, as to what a 'Red Texas' is. Many on here agrees, many don't.

So imo, your fish is not a Red Texas, at least not yet. Time will tell, and if it does satisfy all the requirements above, then imo it would be a Red Texas. Otherwise, no.

I do believe that the PK do have Texas/Green Texas blood, iirc.

One that doesn't end up looking like a retarded FH.
