i take it that this "beak nose" problem is common in EBJD's or both morphs? i didnt realise it was a problem i thought it was part and parcel of having EBJD and it has put me off them.nice JD's btw.

Mine got along well with sevs. What veijas?
excuse me im not good at spelling but a heterospillous, melaranus, and a pearsi, lyonsi, and a carpintis. I know the last three are not veija i also have some geophagus too.

No not yet the bigest one is about 5 inches. i might be moving one of the ebjd soon cause two are pairing up at least that is what it looks like. My lyonsi is the smallest he is smaller than the ebjd and none of my fish mess with it. i think cause it is a 7 foot tank that there is plenty of room but time will tell

Ebjds are generally very easy going, and are both less aggressive and less hardy than normal jds. Of course there ARE exceptions. As a general rule, I would recommend against putting them in with aggressive fish, expecially when they are younger/smaller. Ebjds tend to have health problems when they're young, so any stress can turn them from healthy to dead in a very short time. Yours are beautiful examples of the breed; Good luck with them!

It's not uncommon to see deformed ebjds. That said, there ARE very good looking ones (such as these) as well. Their appearance seems to vary much more than that of normal jds, and you often can't tell until they grow out to 4" or so. Of my three, one is ugly as all heck: beaknose, stunted pectorals... He's also king of the tank; has been almost from the beginning. My nicest looking ebjd is number three in the pecking order; you just can't win! :irked:

Stunning fish! Nice pick up.
