My new ray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So should I be worried he hasn't moved in an hour and a half? His disk has waved about etc but he hasn't moved from where he is in the above pic..

really appreciate the quick responses for you guys keep it coming!

He is just nervous in his new environment and in his mind burying himself and staying still will keep him safe. Its only been a couple hours as well. Good luck with him he looks great!

He's probably stressed. My Lil ray has buried himself for hours anytime he is stressed. Sometimes only comes out when it's feeding time. He doesn't do it anymore now that I got my water parameters all perfect. Except at water change time. That freaks him out and he hides for a few hours.

That being said, have you fed him? I would think that would get him moving for sure.

In my very limited experience, they bury themselves mostly due to stress, and the whole transporting and new home thing is pretty stressful. If your water parameters are good, and he eats, I wouldn't be concerned at all. Give him a few days to settle in.

I may be knew at this as well, but I've learned a lot from the members on this site in the short time I've had my rays.

Yeah I've been on car forum for help with associated things before and the guys on here blow everything else away! Awesome help!

HES MOVING ABOUT,!!!,!

Turned all the lights on and he's on a mission. Can I try my moonlights or best not?

Considering he's fair chunky, if he doesn't eat for the next day or so should I worry?

No, I wouldn't worry. Stress can make em not wanna eat. But if you give em some worms, I bet he won't turn em down. I would leave the lights off for a couple days until he gets settled in.

We don't seem to have blackworms here in the uk. What other worms can I use? Blood worms, meal worms etc. I have bought prawns (no shell) and muscles (again no shell) fresh and also have hikari sinking carnivore pellets. Seemed to refuse the lot however it was a prawn I watched him eat from lfs.

Chop up some night crawlers. Make sure they're small enough for him to get in his mouth

If he was already eating prawns, I would keep offering that. I'm having a heck of a time getting my rays from worms to fresh seafood. If he is already on prawns, you are ahead of the game. Give him a couple days. Make sure you remove all the food he doesn't eat.

If he doesn't eat the prawns after 2-3 days, then try earthworms. That's my opinion anyways.
