Ok thanks for being positive unlike other people on here. Why comment if your going to hate? Anyways what size tank did you keep yours in? What kind of nuts should I feed them once they get older?

the 220gal should be fine for quite a while.. you will know when you need to upgrade.. when they start splashing water or they bump their nose from swimming fast too fast they will need more room.. i had my two in 220gal then i ordered the 300gal when i suddenly lost them. I waited too long.. the best idea is a stock tub {pond} if you cannot afford the large tank... the nuts can be just little peanuts out of the shell.. remember they need to get bigger before you introduce chewy crunchy food..as they grow give them zuchinni, small grapes..{cut in half} piece of raw carrot, string beans.. and pellets for protein.,.. good luck with your babies..they truly become awesome pets.. so awesome you wish you could hold them in your arms... they appear so affectionate and happy.. :) As far as harming other fish my two pacus were alone except for one african cichlid.. they acted like they were his body quards..he would be in the middle of them waiting for his food.. they were together 6 years.. pacus will not usually eat other fish if fed well on a vegetarian diet.. with normal amount of protein.. it is the pacus who are raised to eat goldfish and other abnormal diets that have problems with aggression.. mine were platter size but they did not know it.......hehe...

I have never ever seen a Pacu in my life. In europe or Canada. I have a 225 with a 3' wide so I could probably house one for quite a while but I guess not for life. Just bare in mind that not all fish will grow to what we consider the maximum size. its max for a reason. I'd rather see this guy keep a pacu in a 220 than it get stunted in a 55g. at least the fish will be somewhat happier. I suppose its the width that would make them unhappy

Very true. I would say in captivity most fish don't reach their maximum size. Correct me if I'm wrong but I would assume every fish in the wild as an adult wouldn't be the exact same size as others due to genetics, some could be larger and others smaller.

Ok thanks for all the help guys! Mine so far is buddies with my single Silver Dollar. They are now close to the same size. Is it bad that he eats a lot of frozen meats like blood worms, brine shrimp, and normal shrimp? I put those in for my Eel, BGK, Bichir, and catfish but he seems to eat a lot of it too.

Its not bad. Try to limit their intake on non veggie foods but they are garbage disposals. They will eat anything. I had a snail outbreak in one of my fry tanks so I would drop them into the 300 and the pacus would crunch them up like tic tacs. You can hear the crunch across the house.

Keep decor low so they can zip around but make sure they have a place to hide. Mine used to hang out just out of the view window and peek around the corner to watch What's going on.

Hey guys,
He's grown a lot! He eats a ton mostly pellets but here he is. Does he look healthy? He went from the size of a quarter to this in one month.

When I hadd mine they grew at a rate of about 2 inches a month until a foot then slowed to an inch a month. They are swimming garbage disposals and will eat anything that fits in their mouths. Mine ate two 6inch ID sharks so watch them and the eel. They used to love baby carrots but would steal the shrimp and fillets from the others. Having an 18 inch pacu slam into your hand at high speed is quite a shock. Mine also schooled with a group of silver dollars. Good luck with them but you will need a bigger tank.

Your pacu looks really nice. Love the large amount of red. A friend offered an albino pacu to me and I decided to get him. They are truely one of the most enjoyable fish to keep.
