Not a fan of pacus either but a save is a save. That is like inhumane for putting him in a 55. Better than some noob getting him putting him in a 75 and then never even thinking of upgrading good job

Hes awesome and ou tank looks bigger than a 180, his tail looks a little damaged that should correct itsself.

Our pacu have very vivid imaginations. Our mellow gentle giants will get into a berserk frenzy, crashing into the sides and lids of the tank in a frantic attempt to escape from an imagined predator. One big slam into a tank lid usually brings them back to reality, and they become their jovial jolly selves again. Our 300 gallon tank has no decorations or substrate, yet there is hardly a time when one or both pacus doesn't have cuts or scrapes. Your driftwood scares me. If your pacu is anything like ours, it will get seriously injured on that driftwood.
You should also carefully monitor the water parameters of your tank. We have to change out a minimum of 400 gallons a week to keep the nitrates below 20 ppm. I am convinced that high nitrates contribute to the untimely death of the majority of pacus kept in smaller tanks.

the lfs didnt really have a choice...someone wanted to give it to them and they said that they could not house it at the lfs. the owner of the pacu said that they were just going to throw it in their back yard if the lfs didnt take it. long story short...the lfs had this thing in the basement in a 55 gallon tank for 2 years.
either way...we are planning a substantial upgrade in the upcoming year if all goes well.
