So ive finnally got the shark pool up and running, added my all the tank mates and knock on wood all good so far. ive removed my hot tub from my basment and insulated and installed a 1000gallon pearls of paridice 8ft round pool into my cement pit with built in drain. i figured if i was going to do this it had to be done right so in the future all hassles could be avoided. ive got built in roof ventalation to remove the moisture from the room, and have no worrie of ever getting a leak as it will only fill my pit and drain into my back yard, no flooding of the house. ive in my opinion overkilled my filtration, skimming, lighting and maitance requirments to as ideal as posible. ive had two brown banded bambo sharks for over a year now, purchaced two more young white spotted bambos a few months ago. and then in the last couple weeks got another white spotted bambo, a epuleete (cant remeber how to spell it), and a baby smooth hound. they are all getting along great and everyone now seems to have more then a abundance of room. will update with photos.

gl may need more room with smoothhound

so heres some progress pics, were going to the finishing of the pool surround in the new year. i own a custom automotive shop and do alot of pipe bending for roll cages etc so were thinking of bending up a steel leaning ring and lower pool protector for in case some one slips and falls in. a good friend owns a powder coating company and we can get everything powder coated blue to match they pool.

I know this may be a silly question but I need to ask. with my bamboos be it bandied or white spotted I’ve always touched and pet them, sometimes even hand feed and to my understanding from research these are good sharks to get used to or be able handle without any issues. My new smooth hound aka cruise as he never stops, was so incredibly eager to be touched and to touch anyone that puts there hand in the water. Is this a good practice to get into for the future to help with them not associating are hands as something to bite. Or are we just getting lucky that he is so young dumb and curious, and too small to even really bite if he tried. I would like to get him used to being handled but only if it’s a good thing for him, does he have different skin then my bamboos making not touching a good idea?, or is he just eventually going to mature and one day go from playing to biting people. Check out the pic I posted of cruise posing off my little sisters arm.

i know im going to be pushing it with the smooth hound in the future but as ive so over killed everything that one day in the future should i be able to keep him healthy and happy. i will simply transfere my setup to a bigger pool. i ve installed a hammer dead 5800 gallon/hr pump inline with 1 15000gl/hr beadfilter, and then again to a second stage 30000gl/hr beadfilter , and from there to a modified outdoor pond sump filter box for return back to the pool. ive installed foam/floss, bio balls, sump mud, and live rock into they sump. teed off the sump to a 500gl/hr ext pump driving water into my deltec ts30370 protien skimmer, and 55watt uv seralizer and then plumbed back into they sump for return to tank.for temp of also installed externally a reaction 4 with uv sterelizer to help start my bio as they filter was moved from my prevous setups filtration to help things get along. ive purched a washing machine catch basin into the center of they pool to hold sand and a plexi/live rock duel cave setup. ive glued over 150lbs of live rock to they plexi caves to ensure my sharks dont move them and cut they pool, or allow them any spots to get themselfs stuck in, lost one that way and never again rip. ive installed a 200gl/day ro unit and for the first time am going to run ro water, hope its worth the money. im lucky as i have they means in the future to ensure they are housed in they approriate tank setup/size as im sure if done here which should last me at least 2 years. all in construction/sharks/pool/filtration/salt/etc about $20000.00 said and done but so worth it, love this hobby, love my sharks.
