Hello everyone!!
Im new to this site.
I also bought a silver arowana 5 days ago. He is just 3 or 4". and i have him in his own 40 gallon tank.
By the way your arowana is really beautiful <3!!!!

What a cutie!

I find that crickets and earthworms tend to ellicit an immediate response- if you do earthworms (nightcrawlers would be best, don't dig up your own out of risk of pesticides!) then you're going to want to squeeze them out a bit, and hold onto them until the aro grabs them. Plus, it is a LOT of fun to play tug of war with a young aro! Enjoy it before he gets too big for those games!

My aro never liked freeze dried krill- just didn't take to it. Didn't even like pellets that much. Shrimp, when he gets bigger, are always appreciated.
yeah thanks! i have some nightcrawlers in the fridge right now ill try that in a little bit yeah he has no problem with the krill and is really interested in the pellets so i dont think im gunna have a problem breaking him im gunna try and get some more pics up later that are better quality haha

When I brought my silver home I had the same problem, he was raised on feeders, and only wanted feeders. To break him of this I let him fast for a day, then tried crickets on the second day. He was not interested in the crickets (my O had no problem eating all of them) but on the third day he would accept freeze dried krill. I feed him only krill for 2 days afterwards, making sure to drop it a few inches in front of his face as he swam by. Then I started doing the same thing with a krill/hikari carnivore stick mix. After a few days he now readily accepts the floating sticks, as well as all of the other food I drop in for his tank mates (pellets, flakes, etc.). Hope that helps :)

yeah i need to get me some hikari sticks here in the next couple of days and i heard crikets give really good color so ill get him some of those too im not worried about getting the aro on pellets its the bass im worried about hahaha

okay well today i am vacuming the gravel and doing a large water change and my aro is sitting at the bottom stressed the hell out as im putting water back in he hates this so i put some stress coat in there but still sitting at the bottom is this normal will he always do this or what?

Crickets are equivalent to junk food for humans.. Tasty but not nutritious..
You should gutload the crickets with vegetables before feeding them to your arowana.. This will ensure the aro gets the supplement it needs..

You would be wise to get your arowana eating pellets before any other foods. You do this by only offering pellets and no other foods.
