I thought 1.5 was what I was looking at. This 3.5 is temporary 3-4 months tops! Do u think a 9inch cobra would be ok in a 4ft for 12 months? It’s just I am upgrading my African 1.5 next year to a 6-7 foot so that 5 foot will be spare then. I can get a 4 foot very cheap for now. Thanks for all the help.
i wouldnt tbh. Seems a bit small for a year.
Maybe buy a bath tub or a plastic pond for cheap as temporary set up?

can you not put him in the 5 foot already?

Bath tub sounds a great shout lol not sure how I would enclose the top though to stop it jumping out.

honestly it probably is okay for a year, it stops growing as fast after 12-13 inches. many people keep channa cobras in 2-3ft tanks, and brother is alrdy moving it in a 5ft in about a year. the 9inch cobra would get stunted within the time frame so it is possible.

A fish that is said to survive in stagnant puddles of water getting stunted in a 4 foot tank? I'm sorry but i find that hard to believe especially when people have grown 18"+ auranti in 4 feet tanks with barely any water changes.

So the general consensus is that if I can find a decent 4 ft tank sooner rather than later it would be ok for around 12 months or even based on what some are suggesting forever. I do not intend to add any other fish with it.

as the saying goes in the aquarium hobby, the bigger the better. but for channa cobra it is fine in a 4ft aquarium, but always better if youre upgrading to a 5ft.

I have seen a couple of snakeheads in really murky blackwater setups, no too large. Lots of tree roots and dark brown water. Seems to suit them well. I think it is not merely the size that matters.

I think 4ft should be enough unless it grows abnormally large, from what I've seen they are generally pretty calm and floats around in the middle of the aquarium with the exception of feeding and play time. I personally know some fish keepers that keeps them in smaller tank with driftwood and katapang leaves to create blackwater effect and the fish doesn't seem stressed or unhealthy. Channa in general are really sturdy able to thrive in harsh and extreme environments, I guess if there's anything to watch out for its that hey are great jumpers. But even I've read that they can survive up to 4 days without water and I know for a fact that they can survive for at least an hour as a friend of mine had his chhana jump out of his tank and only noticed it an hour later, surprisingly the fish is pretty much fine.

I have unexpectedly found myself the new owner of a 9inch golden cobra snakehead. I do have a pair of Channa Andrao so I am familiar with their requirements but wanted to know if there is anything in particular I should be aware of with this fish species?
I am assuming it needs the seasonal drop? Currently it’s having to spend its time in my garage as I dont have space for a tank in my house (already have too many). The water temp currently is around 20. It is having to be kept temporarily in a 200 litre 3.5 foot tank as I just dont have anything bigger spare. What would be the absolute minimum size tank I can do with this as a single fish. I really want to keep this fish as I’ve wanted this type for a while and cannot believe I have one which was pretty much given to me, as someone was selling their tank and the new owners did not want the fish, so I took it for them.
Any advice and help would be as always much appreciated. I’ll try to attach a photo.

Just noticed, why is the channa cobra covered in white dots? Is it slimecoat or maybe even ick?
