Sorry about the tempered glass thing koop. If I knew that I would have told you before you bought that 55 from me. Why do you have to drill it? I've seen tons of wet drys that were never drilled. Couldn't you just re-design your filters without drilling?

Oh man no worries. I didn't know either. lol Live and learn. lol I still want to drill them but idk Ill lookingo all options. But If I do drill ill replace the panels I want to drill first.

The check valve goes on the line from the pump to the tank...it checks the direction of flow (water can only flow from the pump toward the tank, and not backflow in case of power outage)

Home depot has them from 1/2"- 1 1/2" (3/4"=$7.00 and a 1"=$11.00)

DO NOT even try to holesaw/cut/drill tempered glass bro, as soon as you breech the surface of the glass it will drop into a zillion tiny pieces...

replace the panels first then drill them

I was thinking of trying it just for giggles I know it would break. I want to know why they do this 55s are the only tank the temper all panels that I coul find.

Koop you might be able to use those 1.25" "U" tubes with a suction pump...kinda like a hang-on overflow box...

the U tube would be an option and I could get the two tanks closer together this way My only worry is keeping the syphon in the tubes. If that breaks i'm screwed.

I have 2 40G I would be willing to trade you straight up. That is, if you want to drive to Indy.

So I have some things to look into. I like the idea with the big check valves to get rid of the poweroutage tank. Very nice. But I need to figure out where they go lol. (I haven't looked at the plumbing to/from the tank yet.) I have a couple of piece that I can still use from when they had it in the store.

1. Is the temp. Glass needed? or will non-tempered be ok.
2. Could you replace with same tickness acrylic? (silicone glass to acylic? easier to drill)

Ill look arond at those U tubes. I need to know the width from tube to tube to make sure they will fit inside two 55s that are touching. and find out if anyone else has used them and how well they work. (I still want to drill and make it look clean as possible.)

But this will all work out I have to many things here allready to not keep pressing forward I can't let this setback slow me down. lol I love the challenge.

This is a pump you can incorperate on the U tubes...
they are 1.25"
2 of them can flow over 1000gph

This pump draws air OUT of the tubes and that's what starts the siphon...they are used on the overflows like below...

If you ahve your heart set on drilling, you will need to either replace the glass or get different tanks. Replacing the glass seems like a lot of effort for a sump setup.
My 40Gs are the exact same as a 55, just shorter. Don't feel as though I am pushing to trade, just thought I'd offer an option.

lol yup but I have since put about 300 into it and about 500 more will finish it the way I want it done.

So about 1500-1800 to get this bad boy up and running.

I am heading to harbor frieght today and I am going to check with them to see if they carry the glass hole saws. maybe Ill get lucky. then I Can try to drill on of those 55s today. That would be sweet But I dought it
