My New Tank Need Advice ( Load Warning )

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I live in Glenmore Park SilverDragon all the set up is just about done all thats left is a couple of pieces of PVC for the bulkheads and to wash the gravel wich is going to be the hard part, Then I have to save some dosh in order to buy filter media for the sump. I was thinking of useing Jap Mat in the 2 first chambers then useing biomax or the equivelant in the 2 second chambers. I was looking into buying the Bio Home media but there are no suppliers here in Sydney that I know of. If anyone else has any idea's on media for the sump please voice your opinion as this is my first sump.I just don't want to use bio balls as they are Nitrate producers and I want to keep maintanance to a minmum.

Yes there good well my uncle has'nt had a problem on his massive tank which is 800G or probly more but there expensive as you can see.

I'm not really sure about those titanium heaters but I wouldn't exactly call Jager heaters 'trusty', the older models with the green top were excellent but the newer models with the blue top have a tendency to overheat, this has happened to me a few times. I now use Sera heaters, much better IMO.

For a cheaper alternative for bio media, you should have a look at Aquaclay.I have been using it for several years now and have found it to be quite good for a cheaper media. $220 for 50 liters means you can really load up on the bio side in the filters. Heres a link. Use the 4 -10 mm type.It has a surface area of 280sqm per liter so its not to bad.

Oh yeah.Great steal on the awesome tank! Is it 3'wide as you have it as 10'x 2' but it looks wider than it is high to me?

I do have to add that the tank and sump along with the stand took me at least 6Hrs to clean and paint, But I do beleive it was worth every drop of sweat.

Cool. Ive got my overflow filled with bio balls.. and in the sump in the 1st compartment ive got jap mat top to bottom (with filter cotton on top), next compartment more jap mat and layers of volcanic rock in between the mats, last compartment ive got ceramic rings.. by the way pete, where did you get your FX5 from at that price??
