my new tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
its arcadia series 3 2 x 400 halides and 2 antic blues really pleased with them! put two corals in at weekend and they seem to be thriving! only concerns are my calcuim levels at 530-540 and i have not added any??? all other tests fine and salt levels fine! only thing i can think is half my water is natural see water and half that we have mixed up red sea coral pro, wonder if the natural sea water was high in calcuim cause we never tested it??

High calcium is okay, this will allow the coraline to grow faster.

What type of corals did you add?? They will also use some of the calcium in the water, so your okay.

I would also suggest sticking to one source of water. This will reduce the shift in water readings and in the long term, my stress your corals. Just my .02 however.

hi yes the only reason its half n half is we took the water with us when we bought the tank second hand, with few water changes it will soon be all made up saltwater.be added 1 hammerhead frogspawn and one soft coral that i cant remember the name of i am hopless with names! they seem to be doing well so far! fingers crossed x

wow, a lot more light than needed for soft corals but really neat, are you planning on some SPS? i'm curious about something, it looks like you got rid of a lot of rock, why?

got one hard coral in there just starting to get corals now we got the right lights.
the rock that we had; 1 there was nothing left in it the tank had no skimmer running and had been bit neglected, the fish what they called emmmm the baddie in finding nemo scar? had picked the rock clean . major hair algae prob!
2 dont you think it was bit too full? we are getting some good mature bug filled rock and adding slowly hoping to build it up in middle.3 the fish have lot more swimming space now happy fish!
you think it looking to empty?
we soon have it fuller by the time we get our corals built up !

i think it looks fine. How many lbs about. A good reef tank will run about 1.5lbs/g to about 2lbs/g. This will give you great filtration and depending on the base of the tank, the size on the rock, can look full or empty either way lol. The tank is coming along and i think the tank looks great. I think it will look great when you build it up in the middle, give it that mountain type look. Something i would try if my tank were longer lol. neways keep up the great work and keep us posted as well.
