I agree, whether the "sp. Catemaco" be classified as it's own species or not, it should be marketed with a different name. Might not keep the "sp", but something along the lines of laguna catemaco fenestratus, or pink fenestratus. Sort of like how carpinte are described by their collection location. If it is classified as a different species, then it should be named as such. I guess we all just have to wait and see. Can we also agree that there is a difference between the "piebald" and "pink" fenestratus?

Perhaps the "sp" should have not yet been given.

And as for dc, I could care less what anybody says about him. All I know is that he offers top quality fish at reasonable prices. And I will call them whatever he says they are until I am proven otherwise. I don't give a crap what anyone else says about them. Wild fish or not wild fish, new species or not new species, they're beautiful fish, and i wouldn't see them any differently.

Pink fenestratus has been a well used name for years. Yes, I agree there is a difference between the piebald and the pink........a difference in coloration! :naughty:

As for DC, I would like to know why he came to MFK and denied being a supplier to my LFS only to reverse position later, but ultimately as long as he continues to supply cool fish I really don't care.

I'd bet that the more attractively patterned fish on the market are line bred versions of the fish originating in Laguna Catemaco (maybe crossed with riverine-type fenestratus that have some of the desired aesthetics...cause they're not technically hybrids, right???!)...

With all of the (alleged) wild collection of fish from Laguna Catemaco, I'd think that there would be a more recent article on collecting trips to the area...what techniques were used to overcome the collecting challenges of the 1993 collection trip (from the cichlidae.com article)...and some description of the permits, etc. needed to take these fish from this habitat / Mexico.

How do you separate the males from the females, is there a noticeable difference?

HAH! I don't think "pairs" carries any special meaning other than 2 fish. Plus, they're selling them as "pairs only" but they got in 7 fish!

There's no way to tell the difference without venting them, and I had to define that term last time I bought fish from them.

I only wish I'd gotten a better photo. The fish are STUNNING!

The term is not stunning, but STUNNERS, you have got to get with the vocabulary around here.

If you look there is a thread about STUNNERS.........and it's meaning
