i raised my tig from just over an 1" but the success rate is very small and i did it through a way fellow mfk'r t1karmann recommended to me that was feed it live neons. mine got through up to 100 neons a week for 2 months and that got it up to 7-8" + where it moved onto danio's and then finally it's current food of hikari massivore. it's now around 12-14" and i'd encourage everyone buying one small to do it this way as feeding it on salty foods like prawn or lancefish will usually kill it when small but if you work out the cost of doing that you may as well spend the cash and buy a big one. nowhere near as much fun though!

Would this also apply to a Juruense? sorry for the slight derail, just I have just got one and its already very thin and I cant get him to feed, do have a thread about it but little response so far and starting te get a little desperate. :nilly:

No problem i dont mind its about tigs and similar cats so i hardly think it can be classed as a derail. I old imagine that yes the same applys to Juruense as to tig's.
GL with getting one, and post pics!:D

Very nice fish, he sure is thin though. And a powerhead works wonders i have a wavemaker and a 2500lphpowerhead going an the tig has beome sooo much more active and sits n the flow which i have cunningly directed accross the front of the tank:D

Yeah, this tanks to small for one of the wavemakers, but I will definately get one for the main tank.

He also sits in the stream from the powerhead, and kind of "perches" like a tripod in its stream.

Hope I can fatten him up, like I say he only arrived yesterday, and as you say he is VERY thin, dont think he has eaten anything for awhile :(

yep that would work for juruense. most people tend to start juruense off on bloodworm. that's what i'd do. the other thing i didn't mention is they very rarely eat when young with the light's on so put the food in then immediately turn off the light, i would then go back to the tank half hour later and scoop out any uneaten food as the last thing you want is decaying food creating poor water quality with a baby tig or juruense. if you feed live also remember to check the filter canister regularly to remove any decaying neon heads, tails or other bits as i often found them in the canister.

Thanks for the advice, live bloodworm is a no go as none of the fish shops I know of within a 15 mile radius carrys them, we went everywhere yesterday.

Gonna try and pick up some neons later and see if he will eat those.

The only thing we have found live is mealworms, but theyre maybe a touch big but I will try them anyway.

Other than that its a freezer full of frozen bloodworm/cichlid mix/beef heart/various other frozen foods, flake, pellets, prawns, flake, sinking carnivore wafer things, we basicaly have every fish food type except live stuff, well we bought some live brine shrimp from one shop yesterday, the only thing we could find other than mealworms.

/emote prays to the fish god for his Juruense to eat.

no need for live bloodworm. frozen is absolutely fine. stay away for salty and fatty foods like beef and prawns. breaking up carnivore pellets in half is a good way along with the bloodworm and live food as you don't want it to put weight on to quickly as that will kill it.
