My next insane thought. Air tight Sealed tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yeah way to much time but i shouldnt say anything because i come up with crazy ideas like that too haha.. I just want to see you build this thing, seems like an awsome idead.

I have drafted plans to do this on a smaller scale using a single sealed sump vs several water tanks. Might take a bit as I will have to build the sump from acrylic, but I am blessed enough to have a pretty awesome acrylic fabricator in my town so I can get some decent deals, I think I can make a sump out of 1/4 acrylic.

The problem I have ran into is the air dryer, I thought they made them for hvac but what I was thinking about is meant for ozone system so the air dryer only takes 1/4 tubing, I am not sure if that small of tubing can handle enough air in an hour to keep the system oxygenated.

coyotethug do you have a link? I would rather but then make on something complex like this, I am not ashamed to admit this it out of my leuge but I like the idea. can you explain more about the co2 thing?

I guess if what you say is true then you could do with out a air dryer and simply vent outside like a close dryer would. I see portable A/C do this. That could be a more realistic setup

IMO that would be the easiest way to go. A shower vent would to the same thing. When we finished our basement all we had to do was cut a hole for the hose to vent outside.

what about the water/air gas exchange vital for fish?

That is why air is forced into the system through one of the two openings. one opening would have a fan and a carbon air filter to keep the incoming air clean, and the the other opening would just be a vent.

not to derail you from trying this out because it sounds like a cool idea, but couldnt you acomplish this by simply sealing the tank and sump and running intake and vent lines to the outside of your house? probably best to use a fan and filter on the intake.

couldn't you also get a dehumidifier that drains back into the sump? sealing the tanks just seems like a bad idea...I get cabin fever breathing the same air all winter...

also could't you get a plant tank in that system to put O2 back into the water?

I wouldn't put the dehumidifer back into the sump as it collects who knows what from the air, such as dust.

Yes you could simply add vents intake and output outside.

Yes, it sounds perfectly workable. I would just filter air from outside (or inside) and pump it onto/into the tank or sump and have an exit back outside for old, humid air being displaced by the new air.

I am not ashamed to admit this it out of my leuge

I just want to keep air clean, and my house mold free.
