My Nightmare came true.

Good to hear from you Yarg! Thanks for replying.

Morays are all gone. Lost the last of them earlier this year. Was a horrible year long before any of this recent stuff happened...... Only had a few after figuring out Barney had turned into a monster, had some issues with my big skimmer and I replaced it with 2 smaller ones and everything just seemed to go to hell from there. Loosing Mr. Nibblez hurt enough to bail from salt.

Well they say it's about how you pick yourself up after losses like this, well, I tried to stand up last weekend and I found my favorite fish dead (Robert the Dorado) down in my big tank - completely unrelated to loosing all the pups. That knocked me down for almost a week. I finally speak a few positive word the other day and what happens? The ray I suspect that spread this died. Then this morning the little CB guy behind the divider appears to be curling, will be dead soon. Only 15 days old. So I don't think I'm going to get up. Just gonna lay here for a while and keep praying the losses end. They have to, I'm going to loose my mind or have a heart attack if I don't figure out how the hell to deal with this. The thought of loosing the last 2 is unbearable. The male is so crazy nice.

Sorry man this is a horror story. Can you do anything to stop it? Meds? Something?

Don't know what I'd treat with? Did Prazi and once they started dropping like flies I just flushed the tank......

I'm guessing bacterial to be the only thing capable of killing this fast. At first I thought flukes cause of the labored breathing but never seen flukes wipe out an entire population in a few days.

I have to have a ray die early in the week to get the thing in for necropsy so unless the lil guy hangs on till Monday I'm pretty much screwed.....

I guess I could try the shotgun approach and toss some Binox in there but if the 2 rays that are left are still eating then I'm not sure I want to knock them off food. They're only like 4" across and neither are what I would consider "healthy" as they're still not taking anything but cut crawlers.......

What would you guys do? I have a whole cupboard full of meds - Binox, Nitrofurazone, Bifuran, Metro, Dimmilin, Prazi.......... Just always thought meds were a bad idea unless QTing or knowing exactly what it is you're going after.....

Why not move them to a new system? You only have 16 million tanks. Get them out of the exposure to whatever is causing problems, keep them stable and eating, and just keep praying.

The oldschool ich method could be something to try if the pups can handle being moved once a day.

Really sorry to hear DB. I am new to rays but all your postings over the years have helped me tremendously. I hope you bounce back with a fresh start and never look back.

Oh man! This is the most disheartening thing I have seen since being in the hobby. I hope everything bounces back going forward. Your too good a keeper for something like this to happen. Wish you the best going forward

I had a loach in my tank for 6-8 months, suddenly it had rapid gill movement, labored breathing nonstop for 3-5 days, would not eat. I put it in a hospital tank, tried 3 doses of kanaplex. No effect. Then did 2-3 treatments of API general cure. No effect. I did some research, purchased powdered potassium permanganate. Did a 60 sec bath of it in 80F distilled water as I didn't want the PP to kill my BB in my display. Pulled out the fish before it tipped over. Placed it back in the main tank. Cured!!! Now eating with gusto! Sorry, bro...I feel for you. Your morays inspired me to purchase my own from Wes.

What's the dosage that you used for the potassium permanganate powder?

I use 1/16 tsp dissolved into 1 gallon of distilled water at aquarium temp for 3 to 5 min (typo on above post.) Wear gloves, goggles. But there are different dosages for different lengths of dips/baths, Google or YouTube it.
