My Nightmare came true.

Anything that can initially attach to the animal and reproduce there will not be affected by UV

Do I typically run crazy UV? Yup. Was I when this happened? Nope. I actually bought a pair of 40 watt units for this tank. When I hooked them up and water shot out the top in the form of a 4' guieser in my kitchen it became apparent I was missing some pieces. I set up the system anyways without the 80 watts I bought for it.

How did the tigerfish get out? Forgot to close the top? So this was just a freak accident in addition to the ray blowup? Such bad luck, I hope things turn around.
----No, I don't "forget" to close tops, there's been far too many losses here to forget something like that. The egg grate covering the slit in the back of the tank for HOB filters got knocked off, either by the ATF or the wolves. Either way he got out.

My question is, how do you think it was/is bacterial? Don't you run like a rediculous amount of UV in your setups? You would think that amount of sterilization would destroy any sort of bacterial attack. Are the bulbs old?
Did anything change recently besides the addition of the new rays? Your experiencing losses in multiple systems now?

Why bacterial? Cause it's the only thing I've seen act so fast...... Possibly the only thing transfered by contact? I have NO idea what it was, just guessing. Hopefully the necropsy on my 15 day old baby comes up with something........ Did anything else aside from the new addition change? NO. That was only change in many many months.

any changes? rays that are left doing ok?? things settle down some?

Man it sounds so similar to what happened here. but you have more rays so had more losses.
1. i didnt qt.
2. my uv bulb was 2 years old or a little older so no uv sterilization.
3. i believe mine was started from flukes, and possibly bacterial is why i lost my bd.

Man what a crazy ride you have been on, hoping for good news from you!

The 2 blackies that were behind the divider are still eating (only cut crawlers). They seem ok. The 2 Morays, the Tiger Scat, and the 6 Cuda that reside behind the divider are all fine and eating, but they never quit eating.

As far as things settling down....... I'm about ready to take a vacation..... You know the kind where they give you the snazzy jacket with buckles on it and set you in a room that's super pillow soft on all the walls........

Things NEVER settle down here. I got a call last nite that my Gatf wiped out tank mates at a buddies house so tonight I have to go get my Gatf back. NO clue where he'll go as he's either going to dine on Tiger Dollars if he goes in the GF's tank, or he'll have his arse handed to him by wolves or Tatf in any of my tanks. So I'm sure that will be awesome. Nothing less stressful then hoping a 15-17" Goliath makes a tank transition OK and doesn't get mauled by the same fish that mauled him and made him leave in the first place a few years back. Anyone need an instant gratification sized Gatf???? lol

As awesome as me having to set up a new pup tank ASAP. IF there's any good news at all in this nightmare it's that it looks like I have a very special lady Marble that I've been patiently waiting on to become a mom and it looks like the time may be upon us. At THE worst possible time ever. I don't remember the last time I've been this stretched out (Ricky ism). Now I have to worry about one of if not the nicest lady Marble I have miscarrying or me screwing up getting the pup/s started off on the right foot. Great news, just wish it was a few months down the road as I have a lot of work ahead to make room for, set up, plum, and get a new pup tank going.

Glad you'll have pups soon to replenish your stock. Good luck!
