My official goal in keeping polys

About your goal...
It used to be mine. And I did it. Excluding Teugelsi (I quit before Toyin started getting his) and Bichir Bichir (which I'll always be looking for).
Why did I quit??
The Ansorgii was sort of like the Holy Grail for me. I got her, and my desire to own them all just flat out died. I was up to 8 tanks, with hours on end piled into cleaning and feeding. I looked into them, and I didn't like all the species. Weeksiis, Retros, Mokes and a few others bored me to death. I'd bought them because "they were on the list", not because I loved them and wanted to keep them and watch them and all that. I was Endli/Lap/Polli/Del hungry, and I didn't have room to get any more fish that I truly enjoyed because my tanks were all full of fish I didn't care about. I started calling them Spacetakers, and realized I wasn't really keeping them for the right reasons. And in doing so, I was doing those fish a disservice. Other people love those species. I just don't. All those fish are gone, my collection broken up... but I have my Endlis, I have my 5 laps, I have my 3 dels, I have my 3 pollis... and I love feeding time again
And I get that satisfaction when I finish WCs that I didn't have before.
So unless you really really enjoy every species, with all their quirks and personalities... consider all that up there ^. Bichirs are expensive, and you don't get nearly what they're worth at trade in time lol

Wow, I would've never guessed that you weren't happy with all of them. It's good to hear you're happy with your poly collection now though.
I thought about that too recently, especially after the headaches my retro has been giving me by not being a super eater like the others. That quality of hers irks me because I looove watching my bichirs chow down pig stylee.
I still enjoy the retro though because of her unique look (big head, small fins, color) and I couldn't part with her.
well basically my collection is up to what yours was then keeper, i have all except teugelsi and bichir bichir...
i truly enjoy each and every fish in my collection and i can say that without a doubt in my mind. i keep them all together in my 90 right now(soon moving to 120), and i consider this tank my "trophy case" so to speak...
and my favorite poly... i cant pick one, like people say, its like choosing your kids, my tops would be endy, congicus, koliba, and ansorgii....oh and teugelsi really floats my boat... and delhezi too...

I didn't like my weeksiis... ran too hot/cold for me. Would be extra reclusive, then go crazy for a few days. I had them a few months. Just didn't do anything for me. Mokes grew too slow for me... I ended up keeping one in the end though. Retros... I could never find them, and always worried when they didn't eat. I ended up buying one a month or so back, just because it looked like it was starving to death. He looks the same, but has a hell of an appetite, so I don't know what to tell ya about that.
My favorite, judging solely on personality: P. Palmas Polli wins by a landslide
My favorite, judging solely on looks: P. Endli Endli wins handsdown... though I'm not a huge fan of Volta variants. My favorite is Nigerian, but I have better luck with Guinea.
Others that top my list... Koliba, Del, Congicus.
JESToner be careful not to stock your tanks too fast... 20 bichirs in 2 months kinda scares me - kinda like ammonia spikes
. But that's just me - I worry 'bout people. Most I bought in one day was 6, all over 8''. That was when I totalled my car, on the same day a huge bichir shipment came in. Chris put them all on hold for me, and when I got my settlement check, I went a bit nuts. My present for me after going thru hell lol
