throw in some cucumber and cantelope.

I don't understand the whole fruit thing. Oscars will eat anything, but that doesn't mean it is the best food. Protein is the best for growth, and oscars are carnivors. I don't understand why people want them to be veggatarians They need some fiber, but any pellet has enough of that, plus the extra vitamins.

oscars are not strickly carnivors in the wild they eat a variety of things, fruits, nuts, fish, bugs etc they should be fed a variety of foods for excellent growth and coloration, and also to prevent hith, pellets are great for there main diet but they dont have everything they need for optimal health(no food does)so a variety is the best thing.

why would you come on here and make such a bold completely wrong statement? oscars are NOT carnivores, they are omnivores, which means they eat meat along with vegetable matter and require both for a balanced diet. protein isnt the only thing that is good for growth. look at the pacu, grows alot faster and larger than the oscar and is considered a herbivore (vegetarian). a diet that is balanced with what your fish needs along with swimming room and clean water is what makes a fish grow.
