My oscar is always hiding

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you could get a piece of fairly thick styrofoam to sit the rubbermaid tub on. it would be a pain emptying it down enough to be able to pick it up and slide the styro underneath but that should help insulate and minimize the vibrations in the water.

Good news so far. My oscar is showing a lot more balls and is moving around the rubbermaid and actually eating. I gave him krill yesterday and he seemed to like it. I started to starve him since yesterday morning and he ate a couple of pellets tonight. He seems to taste it 3-4 times and finally eats it. Will he learn to "love" pellets?

Thanks for everyone's help! I'm going to continue to starve him and ween him off krill and can only hope he goes crazy for pellets.

the best thing is to give the oscar time to settle in. adding plants and rocks and just general hiding places should make him feel a bit happier. try feeding bloodworm every now and then.

as for the gold fish i dont know how long it'l last with the oscar. try getting a pleco as a tank mate it'l also keep the tank clean. just for fun bet with your mates how long the goldfish will last could be interesting.

put the goldfish in a pond, best diet for the oscar ive found with settling them in to a new home, if they are available, is sprats / gamma fish / whitebait / lance fish.

what ever you call them. mine go MAD for it and they have been trained to jump for it :)

I find that if you don't make sudden movements in front of your tank, they'll hide. If you turn off the lights and remain pretty still, see how he reacts...

my oscar did that too when i first got him...........after three days he finally swam around..........he also swam more with the lights off :screwy: ..........maybe just him.............

goldfish are food regardless of species
they are cows of the water

That is true, poor goldfish, they get a bad rap for being some decent pets.
the sad truth however, is that with an O your goldfish will eventually be found on the menu.
