My own attempt at the DIY 3d Background

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey man nice job!! i was going to do a concrete 1 but you have convinced me otherwise lol. i do have a few questions tho, and it seems like no one has any ideas for me... how do you maintain it(cleaning and such)? any ideas on 1 that could easily be takin out for whatever reason?

cant help you out here man I havent even been able to officially set mine up yet

I'm excited to finally present this tank to all of you here on MFK. I've been so preoccupied that its been a while for me to post an update on this thread, but my 30 gallon with the DIY background has been setup for several weeks now, and all is going splendidly!
I snapped a few pictures of the tank to give you guys an idea of how it turned out, also a few of the resident.. let me know what y'all think..

ps. i just got back from vacation and it turned out the light timer wasn't working properly, and I'm afraid the tank may have gotten nearly 4 days of continuous light... needless to say a little algae took over some of my plants.. and did a bit of removal the other day but still have some work to do..

love the tank. the background, plants and inhabitants. keep up the good work. and has me second guessing dryloc or epoxy for my future build.

btw what kinda of cory is that? looks great with the black substrait.

Thanks everyone
The drylok background definnitly worked out, and was pretty cost efficient and straight foward to do.. At this point its got all kinds of natural algae growing on to it, giving it a real natural type look.. Im pretty happy with it so far

I'm pretty sure these are peppered corys, but I can't be top sure cuz my gf picked these out from the store.. I managed to get a breeding pair out of the tank of these guys at petsmart, and have had them spawn probly about 4 times now, but I have had no luck in rearing the babies which totally blowssss... does anyone know what these lil'baby corys need to eat?!

What is drylok if I may ask maybe a dumb question but I wan to do a background for my tank now

definitly not a dumb question i didnt know the answer b4 i researched my own background idea

drylok is essentially a water-proof concrete sealant. It is sold in a can like paint, and you can literally paint it on to styrofoam to seal the foam. Better yet, it gives a rock-like texture if you put on enough, and you can dye it using concrete dye to make whatever color you want.
