My Parrot Oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would love to see if they can actually grow and survive? O's get big-quick. A short bodied O may have organ problems if it grows too fast etc...kinda strange. It's like going to the circus to see the freak show:D
I guarantee this wasn't natural though and is man made.
Are they all albino/lemon oscar color or are there other colors?

I don't think it's possible to cross an Oscar with a Cichlasoma-type.

If this is just a mutated oscar (short bodied or whatever) instead of a cross with a parrot...it wouldn't be a hybrid and this would be the right forum for it. Same as EBJD...

Not my cup of tea, but to each his own ;)

Matt

I suppose it is not a hybrid after further thought. Though, I feel the hybrid lovers may have more appreciation for this sort of thing.

I don't think it's a hybrid. It's an oscar with a spine defect. This happens in a lot of cichlids, including discus. In the discus community, they are actually spawned to pass the deformity onto the fry and sold as "bulldog" discus. It gives them a very tall body with a smashed in face.

If an adult fish with this deformity is spawned, a percentage of the fry will also be deformed. That probably explains why OP has 20 of them.

IMO they are culls, but I guess that can be said about a lot of fish. Just don't let them spawn with anything because it will pass on bad genes. People assumed parrots couldn't breed either but they have.

I think it's kinda cool. I love my blood parrots. Don't know about everyone else on here but I would love to see that fish in water. Very cool! :headbang2

So, if that's the max size of that oscar, Can I keep a pair in a 30gal? If so, I'll take ten of them please.
