My pbass - cichla ocellaris

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
He's in a 180 now and his main diet is prawn. Sometimes mussels but him and the micropeltes love prawn, and live river shrimp. That's about it, the occassional feeder fish.

He still looks a bit bashed up from my jardini, he usually looks better than this.

Looks great! :)

Also a quick question - how hard is it to get a pbass onto pellets?

I have had mine since 1.5 inches and he's never even sniffed a pellet. He loves meaty stuff and goes nuts for live food.

I'd like to feed him pellets though for a more balanced diet.

It's very very difficult. You will have more problems with the Jardini when they get older, P bass are not built for fighting.
Where abouts in the UK are you? How big is the aquarium you have it in?
If you are feeding it mussel and live shrimp that is a good diet, add some silversides and fish fillet to the diet and he will do well and grow alot faster.

Hey Richie - I'm in brighton, and he's in a 180.

I'm selling the Jardini, he gave my red snakehead and pbass a bad beating, they were ****ed up. I want my main tank to be a predator community, I'm not interested in a fish that just bashes the other fish all the time.

I'm surprised that you say a pbass is not built for fighting, I was under the impression they were semi-aggressive when older and could handle themselves fine. They are a fast, powerful predator afterall :)

Shame about the pellets, i thought a pbass was a cichlid? :D

Yeah they are cichlids but they are not like central american cichlids the lower jaw is much weaker. I have had Ocellaris which are much more aggressive, but Monoculus which is what you have and I am selling at the moment, are much less aggressive.
When they get to around 14" then they start to bulk out more, saying that I lost one that size to a 2ft aro!
