My pbass - cichla ocellaris

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Richie are you sure this is monoculus? I bought it from a guy who imported them direct from SA, and he was 100% sure they were ocellaris.

Also you said ocellaris is more aggressive than monoculus. This one has started to become aggressive at 5 inches. He now chases every fish in the tank apart from his buddy the micropeltes and also the bichirs.

Also a quick question - how hard is it to get a pbass onto pellets?

I have had mine since 1.5 inches and he's never even sniffed a pellet. He loves meaty stuff and goes nuts for live food.

I'd like to feed him pellets though for a more balanced diet.

My pbass will eat pellets but they only eat the ones that float for some reason. When i toss in the chiclid sticks, they go after it as soon as it hits the water, but when it starts to sink they swim away. so i dunno

my temensis are the king in my tank.... and sad to say, mine doesnt like pellets too... damn...

Cheers phull, it's only just recently started to show some colour, it was totally silvery before since babyhood. Hopefully it's colour will continue to rise.

Oh phull btw - do you think this is ocellaris or monoculous?

There a couple things that point this fish towards Monoculus, the eyes aren't red, the high dorsal fin, ocellaris have fins much shorter, and the 3rd bar is a bar not a ocellaris.
There is alot of confusion over the identification. Where did you buy it, who was the importer?

Thanks
