I think the sun light has something to do with it besides your great care.I also have breed a pair of monos in a 300 gallon tank and the tank gets lots of sun.Great job!

thats cool man, ive caught 9-10" breeders in miami before and they were usually always the male that was small the female usually was bigger in size.

I saw a you-tube vid awhile back where some cichla spawned in a community tank and an oscar was picking off fry that strayed too far from the parents.

That's correct. Mine are apparently breeding in a tank with 4 other peacock bass and 5 silver dollars. That being said they did take over at least 2/3rds of the tank and chase anything off that crossed the line. Now that the eggs have shown no signs of developing; everything seems to be back to normal now though.
