I imagine I know less about PB than anyone in the forum but in the last couple months I have noticed that they are spawning ONLY in bright sunny areas to the point that sun has to hit them.
This pic I took while fishing as usual I couldnt get the pair together but as you can see the suns rays hit the fish

the other parts of the lake just as warm but shade dont have any PB spawning infact deeper area with even more boulders nice rocks for them to spawn on but less sun lacks any spawning pairs. The canal about a block away has row of palm trees that border it and I see Oscars while rest of canal has nothing but sun and you see PB not as big as by lake but they are there spawning.
They look to me like they thrive in sun and heat need both

No direct sunlight. And they were spawning in there long before I started leaving the door open..
