you sure? How can you tell? I'm not doubting you, I'm just not sure. He's still small and all the pics I've seen look more like Ansorgii, but that's just my perspective. Either way, I like it. He's about 3" maybe nearing 4"

Great info, TGM!Ansorgii pure bred has only been done once by Kamihata Industries.
They had a darker clay like appearance, compared to WC Ansorgii, and juveniles had a very pronunced wedge head.
As they grew their colors and head shapes pretty much grew into what you normally expect of an Ansorgii.
These juveniles were being sold for as much as Wild ones at one point.
These fish all came with certificates, and have not been bred again since.
The ones that are still floating around are all of adult size now or thereabouts.
Kamihata also bred the original Ansorgii x Endlicheri too, followed by Indonesia and Thailand.
All new small CB Ansorgii around right now are hybrids.
Kamihata are no longer Selectivly breeding F1 fish anymore, and have pretty much "sold out" and gone into mass farming.
"Dory-K", "J-1" and another breeding group are currently attempting breeding pure Ansorgii and Congicus.
If you know anything about breeding groups, you will understand that if "Dory-K" haven't done it yet, most likely nobody else has.
If they did, there would be a big song and dance about it like it was when Kamihata managed it, and fish would come certificated (kind of like a breeders "rep points").
All that said, Ansorgii x Endlicheri doesn't mean rubbish fish, just not true breed.
Here is a Juvi Kamihata F1 (Pure) certificated Ansorgii. (check out the unique juvenile wedge head.)

Here is an unknown (possibly Thai) Ansorgii x Endlicheri:

Kamihata in their 2008 newsletter explained how male Ansorgii in captivity showed normal levels of breeding willingness, while females were very withheld and unwilling and responded badly to hormone treatment/injections.
Endlicheri on the otherhand were always willing (as we all know, they are the rabbits or the fish world when it comes to breeding) so mixing the two for breeding was very successful.
This is why they are now mass produced all over Asia.
The Kamihata F1 pure breedsm were all natural spawns, no hormones, and breeding wasn't done by cup mixing method, as this was found to be unsuccessful thus far.
