I think a 75 is minimum for a ply tank. Its 18 inches wide so you can get almost all of the lower jaws with ease, and even an ornate for a long time.

Decided to update this thread with some newer pics of my Polypterus, i now have:
2x Polypterus Palmas palmas
3x Polypterus Palmas polli
2x Polypterus Ornatipinnis
2x Polypterus Lapradei

what type of bichir would you reccomend me getting? i have a big enough tank for all of them but i don't want the huge endlicheri or lapredi. so, which one?

Ornates IME are really really shy, like to hang in the darkness

plus they get huge haha

everything I have read say palmas spp are active like dels and sens

Picked up 2 new Ornatipinnis earlier tonight

The bigger one, 26cm/10":

The smaller one, 24cm/9.5"

Then i decided to get my other 2 Ornatipinnis to measure them...
The biggest one: 29cm/11.5":
