it took about 3 days. it didn't help that they were all 90 degree days, haha.

lol I dug mine deeper in clay at 110 degrees. wasn't fun. but from the looks of it you could have benefitted from a pick, I use it to break everything up then shovel out the loose clay.

took me 2 days to take a 18' x7' x3' (deepest part 5') average depth to a 18' x9' x4' average depth. (deepest part 6')

my back closely resembled a cooked lobster when done. lol

yours is looking nice (and your koi are gorgious btw)

what type of liner are you using? my clay actually holds water quite well on it's own (was actually thinking of doing a mud pond/quarantine) so I didn't feel the need to go too thick on the liner. just somethign to keep the mud out.

Make sure to drain the falls completely in the winter. Any water left inside will freeze solid, and w/o any soil around it, it will bow and crack w/ freeze/thaw cycle.

thanks for all the comments!
the liner is firestone epdm 45 mil.
i think that i could've dug the hole a lot faster but i was just lazy.

the filterfall is actually on a quick disconnect for that very reason, it'll be coming out in the winter.

I agree...looks like a pain to dig in that....straight clay sucks! Will make for a good base of the pond though....liner should sit nice on that.

i've been pretty busy with work and school but here's an update:
all the filtration media is inside the filter fall. i put aeration under the lavarock to help with the cultivation and feeding of the bacteria. i've also added river rock around the edge of the pond, cut the liner, and done some landscaping. it is IMPOSSIBLE for run off water to drain into the pond unless my entire property gets flooded, haha.

things to do:
hide the waterfall
add more rock along the pond perimeter to hide the liner better
remove all the pea gravel and plant the lilies in pots
drain the water and refill to remove construction debris
and misc landscaping

i don't think i ever posted specs so here it is:
AWG big bahama series skimmer/fall
AWG tidal wave 3000gph pump
laguna solids handling sub. pump
laguna pressure filter w/ uv
lava rock for bio media
aeration under the lava rock to help with the bacteria

the pond is roughly 2000-2300 gallons and is getting a turn over rate of 3900gph. hopefully this keep the koi happy. i'm planning to do a lot of DIY filtration with barrels during the winter :)

also, i have nothing to read disolved oxygen levels because i'm piss broke now. however, as you can see in the video the waterfall is providing and a lot of oxygen mixing and i also have aeration under the lava rock in the waterfall filter. do you think this is enough? so far my highest pond tempurature has been 78 degrees F.
